GMR MEGAWIDE Cebu Airport Corporation would like to clarify the reports concerning the supposed flooding in Terminal 2 (T2) of Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) that has been circulating on social media.
Mactan’s main runway is long overdue for resurfacing. In 2018, the problem was partially addressed by resurfacing 300 meters of each touch down area of the runway (2 areas) as these were the more distressed areas. This provided a temporary remedy until it was time to resurface the remaining central portion of the runway.
The Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) handled 5.76 million passengers for the first half of this year, a 12.50% year-on-year increase compared to 5.12 million in 2017. At the same time, air traffic movement also grew 12.86% year-on-year to 49,843 flights this year from 44,165 flights last year.
